There are some days when you step onto a stage feeling more tired than usual.
But then the music starts. The audience starts smiling. People begin laughing, cheering and connecting with one another.
And somehow, you forget how tired you are.
Because sometimes, happiness is seeing every single happy face, no matter how tired you are that day.
That was how I felt while hosting this meaningful event for Caregiving Welfare Association (CWA).
A Different Kind of Event
As a Singapore emcee, I’ve had the opportunity to host many different types of events – from corporate functions and weddings to community celebrations and charity events.
Every event has its own energy.
But community events like this remind me that being an emcee isn’t simply about holding a microphone and following a programme rundown.
It’s about people.
It’s about creating moments where people can laugh, participate, feel included and simply enjoy being together.
Sometimes, my job might be to get a crowd excited.
Sometimes, it’s to make someone laugh.
Sometimes, it’s simply to make sure everyone feels comfortable and knows what’s happening next.
And those little things can make a big difference to the atmosphere of an event.
Supporting Seniors and Caregivers in Singapore
Caregiving Welfare Association (CWA) is a Singapore-based charity that supports seniors and caregivers through services and programmes focused on eldercare, caregiver support, welfare assistance, education and community engagement.
Its work recognises an important part of ageing: supporting seniors also means supporting the people who care for them.
Caregiving can be rewarding, but it can also come with practical, emotional and financial challenges. Having access to resources, community support and professional assistance can help caregivers navigate these responsibilities.
CWA’s work includes initiatives such as caregiver support, counselling, active ageing programmes, home-based care and welfare assistance, helping seniors and caregivers receive support within the community.
And that’s what made being part of this event particularly meaningful to me.
Why I Love Being an Emcee
People sometimes ask what I enjoy most about being an emcee.
Honestly?
It’s the people.
It’s seeing a room go from quiet to energetic.
It’s getting someone who was initially shy to participate.
It’s hearing laughter across the room.
It’s watching people enjoy themselves.
After more than a decade in events, I’ve learned that the best moments aren’t always the ones you plan.
Sometimes it’s a spontaneous joke.
A reaction from the audience.
A smile from someone in the crowd.
A moment when everyone comes together.
Those are the moments that stay with you.
Every Moment on Stage Is a Moment Well Lived
Being an emcee has given me the opportunity to stand on many different stages and meet so many different people.
And every stage teaches me something.
It reminds me that what we do isn’t always about the spotlight.
Sometimes, it’s about using that spotlight to shine on something bigger than ourselves.
For this event, I’m grateful that I could contribute my time and energy to an organisation doing meaningful work for seniors and caregivers in Singapore.
No matter how tired the day gets, seeing happy faces in the audience makes it worthwhile.
